When a secondary drawer beats a denser wall

Finance extras often belong off the primary mural — here is how we park them without losing access.

When a secondary drawer beats a denser wall

Leadership frequently arrives with a list longer than any wall can hold. Refusing density is part of our craft, but refusal needs a constructive home for the overflow.

A secondary drawer — a hinged panel, binder, or adjacent screen zone — holds finance footnotes, annual OKRs, and audit measures that matter monthly rather than daily. The primary mural stays at five to seven live numbers.

Rules we write into handover packs: nothing migrates to the primary band without removing something else; drawer items reviewed quarterly; owner named for each parked measure.

Teams that skip the drawer tend to reinvent shadow spreadsheets within six weeks. Give the extras a legitimate shelf and the wall stays trustworthy.
